Dismissal
Buses are arriving later this year, and this is causing congestion and crowded situations at dismissal. For the week of October 6, we are trying a different dismissal procedure. At 3:30, town students will be dismissed. Parents and students will leave to assist with the overcrowded hallways and streets. Bus students will remain with their teachers in the classrooms until the 3:35 bell. At 3:35 these students will be dismissed and many will be able to directly board their bus. If the bus is not here, students will line up as usual on the pavement near the gym. Bus buddies may leave at 3:30 to pick up the little ones and wait there. We will try this and see if it helps.
Pixie Stick Candies
We have had an outbreak of pixie sticks! They are creating tremendous litter on the playground. Students have been reminded that NO food is allowed outside at breaks – and pixie sticks have been banned from school.
Enrichment Testing
Grade 4 students take part in Board-wide enrichment testing this week.
Fund Raising
A Fund Raising assembly is scheduled for Friday. We are selling cookie dough and catalogue items this year. Students are encouraged to take part as the profits are used for field trips, presentations and special equipment. Your support is greatly appreciated. More information will be coming soon.
Field Trips
Several field trips have already been planned. These trips provide authentic learning experiences for our students. Upcoming trips include a “Ropes” trip for Grade 8 students (Oct. 20), a trip to Heritage Village for grade 3’s (Oct.21) and a trip to the Safety Village for grade 1’s (Oct. 29). The grade 4 and 4/5 just returned from a successful trip to the Water Festival!
Election
The school gym will be used on October 14 for the election. Be sure to exercise your right to vote!
Tilbury School Clothing Sales
Last Call !!!! Anyone wishing to order TAPS t-shirts, shorts or sweat shirts should get the order to Mrs. Janke before the end of this week. Orders will be processed on Friday, October 10.
Nutrition
The school has a nutrition committee and the following information is being shared:
*TAPS is celebrating Fruit and Veggie Week during the week of October 20. Free fruits and veggies will be shared with all students each day.
*The Health Unit is presenting to the School Council on Monday, October 20 at 6:30. Come out and learn about nutrition.
*Last week TAPS took part in World Milk Day. Students were given free milk.
*Legislation in schools restricts trans-fat sales. Our food days (pizza and hot dogs) and our sales items (chips, etc.) fall within the legislation.
*Parents are reminded that items brought to school need to be nut free. We also do not allow pea-butter and other peanut butter substitutes as we would not be able to monitor classrooms safely.
Nutrition Breaks
Most parents have supported the new rules at the school and most students have been staying at school for both breaks. This has resulted in far fewer problems for students at break times. Thank you all for your cooperation and for helping keep our students safer.
Halloween
Please keep the following in mind as we approach Halloween. A Halloween dance is set for grade 7 & 8 on Oct. 24. Student Council is providing a Haunted House for students on Oct. 30. Students in JK – Grade 2 can wear costumes on Oct. 30. ANY TREATS SENT TO SCHOOL MUST BE PACKAGED AND PEANUT-FREE. Your child’s teacher will have more information regarding your child’s class and Halloween activities.
The first month of school has flown by quickly! Click on the October calendar to read about what we’ve done as well as what is quickly approaching.
Just a reminder to all families that Monday, Spetember 29th is a PA DAY.
