I would like to welcome your children to Mrs. Brown’s grade two/three class! I look forward to working with you and your children to make this a very rewarding and successful 2011-2012 school year.

Our first week in the grade two/three class was very busy! We spent time learning all of our classmate’s names, learned new rules and routines, completed a ‘Welcome Back’ booklet, and the students were able to meet all their other teachers for various subjects: French with Madame Stennett, Gym with Mr. Munroe, Music with Mrs. Belicka, and Library with Mrs. Johnston.

The students have done a fantastic job remembering to bring their STAR Folders back to school each day. The planners that are located in the first pocket of the folder will be used for daily home and school communication. If you have any questions or concerns, please write me a note in the planner. I will try to respond as quick as I can with a returned note home or a phone call. Please check the planner every night and sign it so that I know you are aware of any homework. I will check planners each morning. Students will recieve a sticker in their planner at the end of the day if he/she continued to be a star student all day. Students that have to be disciplined throughout the day for any reason will not recieve a sticker and a note will be placed into the planner to explain. The pocket at the back of the STAR Folder will be used to send any mail home.

Beginning Monday, September 12, I expect nightly reading from all students. As outlined in my September newsletter, the students should be reading a minimum of 15 minutes each night and should be recorded and signed in the Home Reading section of the STAR Folder. Any unfinished work throughout the day will also be sent home to finish. Please do your best to assist your child with their homework.

Five new words will be written in the planner each Monday. These words should be studied each night in preparation for dictation on Fridays. These words will be placed on our word wall in the classroom at the end of the week. Students will be expected to spell these words correctly at all times in class.

Just as a reminder, students will require an extra supply of pencils, erasers, and crayons throughout the school year. You are welcome to send any in to be placed in their special ‘extra bag’. That way, when supplies run out they will be able to grab some more at anytime. Headphones are also required for computer lab. You can buy them for a dollar at Dollarama. Please send these in as soon as possible.

Please also remember that we are a nut-aware school, and snacks containing nuts or that may contain traces of nuts will be sent home.

Any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the school.

Looking forward to a great year in the grade two/three classroom!

Sincerely,

Mrs. C. Brown
