We are now well into a new school year in the French room.  Everyone has managed to settle into the new routines and I am really enjoying my new position at TAPS.  I think that the largest adjustment for me has been teaching the primary classes.  Some teachers are scared by the Grade 8’s, I am scared by the Grade 1’s.  Each day is a learning experience and I have learned to laugh along the way!

If you ever have questions, comments or concerns about the French program feel free to contact me by calling the school, sending a note to me or sending me an email at stennetr@lkdsb.net

In Grade 1, 2, and 3 students are learning about colours, numbers, dates and weather.  We are also working our way through a new program that the school has purchased.  The AIM approach to learning a second language believes that attaching actions to words helps accelerate second language acquisition.  We are all really enjoying this new program and thank Mr. Gregory for purchasing it for us.  By the end of the program, students will be performing a play called La Poule Maboule (Chicken Little in English).

In Grade 5 and 5/6 we are working through the Visages 2 program called La Pizza.  At the end of this unit we will be making and enjoying mini pizzas.  Miam, Miam, J’aime la pizza!

In Grade 6 we are learning about Natalie Quebec (a Visages 3 program).  Natalie is a English speaking Grade 6 student from Vancouver, BC who goes on a 2 week exchange to Quebec.

In Grade 8 we are enjoying the On y va! 2 unit called Au Casse-Croute.  We are learning all about different types of restaurants and words/grammar structures associated with them.  Our goal in Grade 8 is to ensure we are ready for high school French.  I want to make sure that getting that Grade 9 French credit is easy!

Again, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
