Welcome back! It was great to meet some parents at the Meet the teacher BBQ. I met over half of you. I look forward to meeting more of you at interviews.

Portfolios Every month students will be asked to take home their portfolios to be signed. The portfolios contain some of the students best work and some work students can improve on. It is another form of communication with you that keep you posted with your child’s progress. This month was 100% returned!

Scholastic Book Clubs
Our class will be ordering through Scholastic Book Club. Scholastic is a great way to order books for your child. Often, prices are much lower than you will find in retail bookstores. Plus, every order earns Scholastic Bonus Coupons that are used to buy books for all students to access through our classroom library. Book Order due October 16th
What’s Happening in Class?
As a class we are working on Learning Skills each week to improve our classroom involvement, cohesiveness and marks on report cards. Our Learning Skill this week is Homework Completion.
In Language, we will completing our Diagnostic Reading Assessment (DRA). In writing will be working with Narrative stories as our school wide writing project last year. Take a look at our school wide celebration writing wall in the front foyer.
In Social Studies we are studying Ancient Civilizations. We have been studying Athens vs Sparta and will continue to look deeper into differences in the way we live today.
In Science we are learning about the Human Body. We have learned about cells, the digestive system and respiratory system. Quiz your kids on what body parts they know! Up next is the Circulatory System.
In Math we have have completed patterns and now onto Numeration.
This cool weather is keeping us inside for cooperative games such as Speedball and Up in Phys.Ed.

In Language, we are focusing and building on reading strategies. We will also are looking at Recount writing as a review from our school wide writing project last year.
In Social Studies we are studying Ancient Civilizations with a focus on Ancient Greece and China.
In Science we are starting our first unit on the Human Body. The class is finding this topic very interesting.
In Math we have been working with patterns.
This beautiful weather has taken us outside for cooperative games and baseball in DQPA and Phys.Ed.
