Teachers There are some changes to teachers this year. Our class will have Miss White for Science, Mrs. Burton for Music and Drama, and Miss Smith for French. I will be teaching Language, Math, History, Geography, Health, Phys. Ed and Visual Arts. Homework Grade 8 students will have homework or reading to do most evenings, as well as ongoing projects. Please help your child stay on top of assignments by providing them with a quiet work area, a regular time to do homework, and the tools they need to complete assignments, such as pencils, lined paper, and a calculator. Scholastic Book Clubs Once again, our class will be ordering through Scholastic Book Club. Scholastic is a great way to order books for your child. Often, prices are much lower than you will find in retail bookstores. Plus, every order earns Scholastic Bonus Coupons that are used to buy books for all students to access through our classroom library. Meet the Teacher This year’s Meet the teacher night will be on Thursday, September 18. More information will be sent home closer to the date. I look forward to seeing everyone again and to meeting parents. What’s Happening in Class? In Language, we will be reviewing and building on reading strategies. We will also be looking at Recount writing as a review from our school wide writing project last year. In Math, we will be exploring number relationships including prime and composite numbers, factors and multiples, scientific notation, square roots, and order of operations. In History, we will begin with a unit on New France, and in Geography, the first unit will be on the Five Themes of Geography. In Science, Miss White will be covering Interactions within Ecosystems. In French, Miss Smith will reviewing key concepts from grade 7, in order to prepare the students for grade 8.
