Playground Areas

On the yard and in the school, students are expected to refrain from any rough or dangerous play. Students are expected to follow the Tribes agreements and school rules. Students are expected to remain in their designated play areas. Playground equipment is not to be used in the winter months. Please respect the gardens, bushes, & gazebo in the courtyard.

JK/K students play in the fenced in area at the end of the south drive.

Primary students play in the south yard.

Grade 1 & 2 students use the southern playground equipment.

Grade 3 to 6 students use the southeast playground equipment (3 & 4 first break; 5 & 6 second break).

The courtyard is reserved for junior and intermediate students, and the gazebo is for grade 8 students.

The large soccer field is designated for grades 4 to 8 students (JR first break, SR second break), and the paved basketball courts for grades 6 to 8 students.

The parking lot and bike racks are out of bounds.

The courtyard is designated as a quiet, non-running area.

Balls:
Please note that no hard balls or Indian rubber balls are permitted, as they become dangerous on busy playgrounds. Basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, tennis balls and soft rubber balls are the only balls permitted.

Playground Equipment:
Skipping ropes, balls and other toys are not permitted on the climbing equipment for safety reasons. Tag and dangerous play is not permitted on climbing equipment as well. The equipment is closed during the winter months.

Playground - Danger of Strangulation

Each year in Canada, thousands of children get hurt at playgrounds playing on slides, monkey bars or swings. Some children have died when their clothing or drawstrings got caught on playground equipment or fences. Some children have died when they became entangled in ropes or skipping ropes attached to playground equipment. Loose clothing, hoods, scarves, drawstrings, mitten cords, ropes and skipping ropes can strangle a child!
Safety Tips

  • Remove cords and drawstrings from children’s hoods, hats and jackets.
  • Tuck in all clothing that can get caught on playground equipment.
  • Wear a neck warmer instead of a scarf.
  • Take off bicycle helmets before using playground equipment. Bicycle helmets can get trapped on equipment and strangle a child.
  • Make sure children do not tie ropes or skipping ropes to slides and other playground equipment.
  • Supervise children on the playground.
  • Teach children how to use playground equipment and play safely.
  • Sports Activities

    Physical Education
Please label all physical education equipment. Students are required to wear proper clothing for each class. Students may only be excused from physical education with a doctor’s note or a special note from parents. We believe that the fitness of every child is important so participation in physical activities is encouraged.

    School Travel Teams
School travel teams provide the opportunity for student athletes to develop their skills at an advanced level. Students must try out for a team and be selected to represent our school. A student on a team is an ambassador for the school and is expected to show appropriate behaviour in the classroom, on the court/field and off the court/field.

    Intramurals
Our house league system was developed to provide a sports outlet for all students and especially for those not on school teams. Every student from grades 3 to 8 who wishes to participate will be placed on a house league team. House leagues take place at nutrition break times.
