Student Safety

WASHROOMS AND CHANGE ROOMS

Horseplay in washrooms and change rooms can lead to serious injuries. Students are reminded that these rooms have specific purposes and misuse of these rooms will lead to consequences.

Safe Welcome Program

To ensure the safety of all students and staff, doors are kept locked except the front door. Please enter and sign in at the office, and wear a visitor’s badge. At dismissal, all parents, babysitters, grandparents, etc. are asked to meet the students in the foyer or at the JK/K doors. This nurtures independence in our students and ensures that strangers do not go unnoticed in busy hallways.

SAFETY PATROL

The Safety Patrol program provides a safe supervised crossing for students at Mable and Fort. Patrollers are on duty 20 minutes before classes begin in the morning and 20 minutes at the end of the school day. Their work takes great care and concentration and requires the complete cooperation of students and others. Please encourage cooperation and respect for our patrollers. Students are expected to follow the directions of Safety Patrollers who are on duty. Safety patrollers will not be on duty when the wind chill is below -180 C.

STUDENT INSURANCE

The law in Ontario does not permit school boards to insure students for accidents or injury. Instead, the school sends home a package in September with information on how to purchase student insurance by mail from a major insurance company. This economical insurance is worth a look and forms are available at the school office.
