September has gone by so quickly and we have been very busy. We are still reviewing rules and establishing routines. Many students have adapted to the full day kindergarten very well. In class, we have been working on a new letter each week. Students have really enjoyed some of the songs we sing about the letters. Senior Kindergartens have started a Sound Book that they take home at the beginning of each new week. As the cooler weather approaches, please label all coats, hats, mittens and boats. We have had a lot of mix-ups this month. Also, we are starting to have quite a collection of Lost & Found items. As of today, I think we have 5 unclaimed spoons, and several plastic containers. If you are missing any of these items, please write a note in your child’s communication bag. Thank you for your continued support! Mrs. Westbury Science: On November 12th, 2009 students will present their science water filtration systems to the class. Students have been working on these systems in class and many are taking great pride in their work. Students were given an outline and rubric when this project was first assigned. In addition, a list of reminders was distributed to students today. It is important that students follow the outline and rubric to ensure they have all the components of the assignment completed for this Thursday. Drama: The grade 7’s and 8’s have been working on Tableau representations. This week students will represent a person in a photograph and each student will discuss the thoughts and feelings of this character. The topics of these photographs involve many social, economical and environmental issues. Math: Grade 7’s have a math test this Wednesday (November 11th, 2009) on Chapter 4: Patterning and Relationships. Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding the following concepts: sequence, term number, term value, pattern rule and scatter plots.
